Fabio Balli is a facilitator and consultant in collective intelligence. He holds a PhD in social sciences from Concordia University (Montreal, 2023) and is an affiliated researcher there and at the IUC of Turin. He designs methods, events and platforms that allow people living different realities to build a common project. His common thread: helping groups take care together in the face of critical challenges.
His path alternates study and practice. From 2002 to 2008, he worked in hotels, including as duty manager. From 2009 to 2017, he advised organisations on organisational development and information systems, from Paris to Montreal. He is a Swiss federally certified adult trainer. He also holds degrees in the human development of organisations (MAS, HES-SO), game design (DESS, Université de Montréal) and comparative law (LLM, IUC Turin).
His thesis, Healing Communities, describes a method that helps teams of teams converge within a few days. It has four steps: welcome and listen to each other, agree on priorities, pool resources, take care through the group. The Prenons soin ensemble festival, which he founded in 2022 in Geneva and the canton of Vaud, was its pilot. Prepared in 122 days with 115 co-hosts, this nine-day festival left a synthesis in ten languages.
In 2014, in Montreal, he co-founded Breathing Games, a health commons. Within it, children, care teams and creators design games and breath controllers, released under free licences. The community has held 38 co-creation events in five countries, including 11 game jams. Its two games, Asthma Heroes and Asthmonautes, have been translated into 13 languages by about a hundred volunteers. As principal investigator, he secured funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Fédération hospitalière de France.
In 2020, he was one of the ten project leads of the European hackathon EUvsVirus, which brought together 20,900 people in three days. In 2024, he designed a five-day game jam in Ouagadougou and co-facilitated it with a Terre des hommes psychologist. Twenty-three refugee, displaced and host-community adolescents created a game there. The NGO now distributes it, with a toolkit published in 2025.
He also supports leadership teams in Switzerland and Canada, using Madeleine Laugeri's Emerging Change approach. He is a co-author of Les clés du dialogue hiérarchique (InterEditions, 2024). He works in French and English, in Geneva, in Lausanne and by video call.
