Work with me

Two-page brief for organisations

This brief can be passed on as it is within your organisation. In two pages, it presents who I am, the problems I work on and how an assignment unfolds.

Fabio Balli, PhD in social sciences (Concordia University, 2023), facilitator and consultant in collective intelligence. I design methods, events and platforms that allow people living different realities to build a common project. Registered as self-employed in Switzerland, I work in Geneva, in Lausanne and by video call.

The problems I help with

  • A transformation project that is stalling: structures and tools change, rarely the way people cooperate.
  • People concerned consulted too late: patients, aid recipients, children or field teams receive a solution designed without them.
  • Teams that compete instead of cooperating, and decisions that move up and get stuck.
  • Exhausted people: crises follow one another, and there is no energy left to change.
  • A crisis that requires mobilising many people quickly.
  • A health or AI project to frame or evaluate with the people who live the problem.

Three ways of working together

Individual support

For managers, executives and project leaders facing tension, exhaustion or crisis. We clarify what matters, then you test concrete options between sessions. This is not therapy: if medical or psychological support would help, I refer you.

Co-creating with the people concerned

The people concerned, your teams and your decision-makers build a response together: a consultation, a project, a policy or a tool. I design and facilitate the process, from a large group gathered for a few days to a leadership team supported over several months.

Strategic consulting and project management in health promotion, AI and playful learning

Your projects are framed, led, tested and evaluated with the people concerned, on assignment or within research consortia. This includes playful learning design and participatory research. For AI, I work in tandem with technical specialists.

How an assignment unfolds

  1. Describe your project; I reply in writing within 24 hours
  2. Framing with the person who carries the request: the problem, the people concerned, partners, risks and indicators
  3. Design with a small group representing the people concerned, including an ethics and safeguarding protocol
  4. Delivery: sessions, workshops, an event or project leadership in short steps, with decision points
  5. A review, guidelines to carry on without me and, if you wish, resources published under a free licence

Selected references

  • Terre des hommes, Burkina Faso (2024) A five-day game jam in Ouagadougou, which I designed and co-facilitated with a psychologist from the NGO. Twenty-three refugee, displaced and host-community adolescents created a game there. Terre des hommes now distributes it and published a toolkit in 2025.
  • European Union, EUvsVirus hackathon (2020) One of the ten project leads of this online hackathon, co-organised in one month. In three days, 20,900 people designed responses to the pandemic.
  • Prenons soin ensemble, Geneva and Vaud (2022) A nine-day festival that I founded and designed, co-created with 115 co-hosts. It piloted the method from my thesis and led to a synthesis published in ten languages.
  • Breathing Games, with hospital teams (since 2014) I co-founded this health commons, where children, care teams and creators design free games to breathe better. I was principal investigator for the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Fédération hospitalière de France. Clinical studies were conducted with hospital teams, notably at CHU Sainte-Justine.
  • Fujitsu and Lausanne Hospitality School (EHL) An autonomy mapping based on René Rupert's management compass. I carried it out at Fujitsu, then with 84 teachers at the Lausanne Hospitality School.

Bilingual in French and English; German and Italian for simple individual sessions only.

The amount of each assignment is set together, depending on its duration, the number of people and the deliverables. Indicative ranges are on the Impact page.
